An animal welfare charity says it's been forced to move its Mobile Clinic in Ballyfermot to a new location after volunteers were robbed.

The van has parked up at the same spot on the Kylemore Road every Wednesday evening for the past 50 years, but last week a masked man armed with a weapon threatened volunteers and frightened clients before he made off with the night’s donations.

The charity says, while no one was hurt, the team was badly shaken, and they have decided to position their weekly clinic right outside Ballyfermot Garda Station on Rossmore Avenue.

A spokesperson said the decision "offers peace of mind for everyone involved in the service and for those whose pets benefit from it."

"Never was there an incident of this magnitude before... our team is undeterred in carrying out its invaluable work which will continue as normal, but just from a new location", a statement concluded.
