A man has been arrested in connection with a violent burglary that was carried out in north Dublin two months ago.

A car and a sum of cash was stolen after a gang broke into a family home in Balrothery.

On August 2nd, a local family’s peace was shattered after a number of men forced their way into their home at around 3.30 in the morning.

A man, woman and child were in the house at the time.

The gang tied up the man and threatened him with a shotgun before making off with a sum of cash.

Gardai say the victims were left traumatisied after the raid and the man was taken to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

Shortly afterwards, forensic experts searched the house for clues and a car, which was stolen from the house and later found burnt out, was also examined.

This morning, a 40-year-old man was arrested in Balbriggan in connection with this violent crime.

He was taken to the local Garda station there where he can be held for up to 72 hours.
