An Aer Lingus plane that was headed to China to collect more supplies to fight the coronavirus has had to turn back shortly after take-off.

Flight EI-9018 took off from Dublin Airport just before 11.00am, but had to turn around following a bird strike on one of the engines.

It is believed the plane, which was not carrying any passengers, attempted an emergency landing on one engine.

Emergency services were also requested on landing.

The plane landed safety at around 12.30pm where crews followed it to a remote stand.
