Elderly woman seriously burned in Drogheda house fire

A woman in her 70's has been seriously burned after a house fire in Co. Louth.

Gardai believe the fire in Drogheda may have been started intentionally.

The alarm was raised at around 1 o'clock this morning when the fire was spotted at the house on Chord road in Drogheda.

A woman in her 70's was rescued from the blaze and initially taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

She was later transferred to St James Hospital in Dublin, where she's being treated for serious burn injuries and smoke inhalation.

Gardai in Co. Louth believe the fire may have been started maliciously and are treating it as suspicious.

They're are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
