Around 35 million pints of beer were lost due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

According to the Irish Independent, most of it is being converted into animal feed or fertiliser for Christmas trees.

400 thousand kegs worth of beer were recalled after pubs shut during lockdown - half of which were from Guinness brewer Diageo.

Brewers are working with Revenue to reclaim more than 20 million euro that was paid in excise.

Beer in untapped kegs has roughly a four-month lifespan, while 'active' kegs need to be finished within two weeks.
