1.9m Illegal Cigarettes Seized In Dublin

1.9 million illegal cigarettes have been seized in Dublin.

Revenue officers with the help of detector dog Waffle made the discovery at Dublin Port yesterday.

The consignment has an estimated retail value of €1.4 million.

A revenue spokesperson says: "Yesterday (07/09/2022), as a result of routine profiling and with the assistance of detector dog Waffle, Revenue officers seized over 1.9 million cigarettes at Dublin Port.

"The consignment of illegal cigarettes branded ‘Manchester’, had an estimated retail value of €1.4 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €1.1 million.

"Investigations are ongoing.

"This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295."
