Thousands of people on the fringes of Dublin are being told they will benefit from the National Broadband Plan.

Despite concerns over cost and ownership, the contract to bring high-speed Internet to more than a million people has been signed.

Some areas will be connected to high speed internet through the National Broadband Plan by the end of next year.

1.1 million people are set to benefit from the project, which the Government signed off on.

Delays and increasing costs have set back the project by years, but finally the National Broadband Plan was signed this morning.

The first areas are set to be connected by the end of next year.

It's hoped works will get underway in the next 8 weeks.
