G'wan Andrew Hozier Byrne!
Hozier has officially landed the number one spot on the top of the US billboard chart.
His recent single ‘Too Sweet’ immediately shot to success, hitting No.1 in Ireland a week after its release, and hitting No.1 in the UK a week later.
This week he’s achieved something that hasn’t happened an Irish artist in 34 years, he’s reached the top of the US Billboard chart.
The last was Sinead O’Connor in 1990 with Nothing Compares 2 U.
It’s also the 5th ever time an Irish artist has reached that number one spot in America.
U2 achieved it twice in 1987 with Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For and With Or Without You. And the first ever person to hit the top spot was Gilbert O’Sullivan with Alone Again (Naturally) in 1972.
After news broke that he’d made Number One in the US, Hozier shared a video message on social media with his fans.
A huge thank you for all the incredible support from around the world 🖤 #TooSweet has reached #1 in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and #1 for a second week in the UK and Ireland.
It means the world that you're enjoying this song so much. Thank you all 🖤 pic.twitter.com/osMW4dB1n2

“It’s absolutely staggering, I’m taken massively by surprise by it. But I just want to say thank you so so much for your support. I’m so thrilled that you're enjoying Too Sweet and it means the world to me so thank you.”
As well as reaching the top spot here, the UK and the US, Too Sweet has also reached number one in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
The Irish are truly unstoppable right now!
