A whole new generation of Griswolds go on a road trip from hell in Vacation.

Ed Helms, who we know best from The Hangover, plays the grown-up Rusty, son of Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) in the original National Lampoon films. He now wants to take his own family of four on a cross-country trek to Walley World.

Naturally, things don’t go as planned.

“Those movies are sacred to me,” the actor tells Ryan Seacrest.

“They were a huge part of my childhood. We had HBO when I was young and those movies were on a loop. l’d just watch them all the time … It’s literally a dream come true.”

Even though it’s been more than three decades since the 1983 original, Ed says his character is still the same old Rusty, just “a little nerdier.”

“I think Rusty now takes his cues from his dad because adult Rusty is pretty different from the teenage Rusty. He’s a little closer to Clark Griswold in his optimism and his relentless drive to make his family have fun, and that I feel is just in the Griswold DNA. I feel like the teenage Rusty … he’s a little cooler than the adult Rusty. Adult Rusty is a little nerdier, and maybe that’s just what I bring to the role.”

Join Ryan Seacrest on 98FM weekdays from 9pm.
