Star Wars: Episode 8 has officially started filming, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Iger said: "Filming of Star Wars: Episode 8, the next chapter of the legendary saga, has just commenced and it will be in theaters December 2017”.

Shooting on the film was meant to commence in January but got pushed back along with the movie’s release date.

Iger also confirmed that production on Episode 9 of the Star Wars series has begun. The film, which will be directed by Colin Trevorrow (Jurrasic World), is set to be released in 2019.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is one of the most successful films of all time. It recently become only the third film in history to gross over $2 billion worldwide.
