Moore Street Market Traders Willing To Close Down

Moore Street could be no more after traders said they were willing to cease trading at the historic market.

It's been operating in the city for 200 years.

A document signed by 17 traders has been sent to Dublin City Council, which says say they want to leave the market.

A recent Government report showed a lack of toilets, crime, and anti-social behaviour was leading to its decline.

In August, the Corporation Fruit Market closed in Smithfield, with the victorian building to get a makeover.

The Irish Times reports that council chiefs said traders at Moore Street have one-year leases similar to renting a property.

Independent TD Maureen O'Sullivan has said that the traders are looking to meet with the council to sort out the future of the market.
