The Corporation Fruit Market at Smithfield in the north inner city is closing for now.

The victorian building is set for a makeover, with the last of the traders leaving by 3pm next Friday.

Many people want a market of some description kept at the spot when it re-opens.

Dublin Chamber spokesperson Graeme McQueen thinks it should be modernised:

He says "It's not easy to tell any business to move on so it has been a slow process, but hopefully they've got a deal now that they're happy with and this will allow for the redevelopment of the site and really to bring the building up to spec, make it relevant for modern Dublin".
