Man In Critical Condition Following Serious Assault

A man is in a critical condition in hospital following an assault in Dublin City Centre in the early hours of this morning.

A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident on Dawson Street at 1.45am.

Gardaí say the man in his 20s was taken to St James Hospital following the altercation between two men, and has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

The scene is preserved for a technical exam and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A garda spokesperson says: "Gardaí in Pearse Street are investigating a serious assault that occurred on Dawson Street, Dublin in the early hours of this morning Friday, 29th September, 2023 at approximately 1.45am."An altercation occurred between two men on Dawson Street, Dublin and one man, aged in his early 20s was removed from the scene to St. James's Hospital with serious injuries. He was transferred to Beaumont Hospital and remains in critical condition."A man, aged in his early 30s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in South Dublin."The scene is currently preserved and a technical examination will take place."Gardaí are appealing for any persons with information in relation to this incident to come forward and any road users with video footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to them."Investigating Gardaí are appealing to any persons who were in the vicinity of Dawson Street this morning Friday 29th September, 2023 between 1.30am and 2am to contact them at Pearse Street Garda station on 01 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
