A 38 year old man has appeared in court charged in connection with an incident which saw two Gardaí shot.

Daniel Goulding, of Whitechapel Grove, Blanchardstown has been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to danger life as well as possession of three guns and a large amount of ammunition.

Shortly after 7 o'clock on Tuesday evening, Gardaí were alerted to an incident at a house in Whitechapel Grove in Blanchardstown.

The court heard that on arrival, two Gardai immediately came under fire. They took cover behind a patrol car but were shot.

Both underwent surgery yesterday to remove bullets from their feet.

Following extensive negotiations with Gardaí, Daniel Goulding was arrested and brought before Blanchardstown District Court this morning charged with five firearms offences, including possession of two sub machine guns and a semi automatic pistol.

The advice of the DPP is being sought and further more serious charges may be brought.

The court was told the 38 year old has been receiving psychiatric care for a number of years, and has been seen by a doctor on a number of occasions since his arrest.

Daniel Goulding was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Friday.
