Gardaí have issued a warning about misinformation circulating online about the crash, which killed a member of the force in north Dublin.

Garda Kevin Flatley was conducting a speed checkpoint at Lissenhall near Swords on Sunday afternoon when he was struck by a motorcyclist.

The death of the dad-of-two young daughters has shocked the Force, with his funeral due to take place this Friday.

Gardaí say they're aware of content online which claims to give an eye witness account of what happened. They say this commentary is completely inaccurate and has no basis whatsoever in fact.

In a statement, they go on to say the misinformation risks diverting their resources and time from what is a complex and ongoing investigation.

Gardaí say they've made social media companies aware of the misinformation and it's up to them to comment on requests from the Force to remove it.

Funeral

49 year-old Garda Flatley will repose at McNally's Funeral Home in Balbriggan on Thursday evening.

His removal will then take place on Friday afternoon at Saints Peter and Paul’s Church in Balbriggan at 1.30pm.

He will be laid to rest afterwards in Newcastle Cemetery.
