Man Appears In Court In Connection With Murder Of Neighbour

A 48 year old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his next door neighbour in Clonsilla.

The court heard the accused man has psychiatric problems and needs appropriate medical treatment.

77 year old Peter McDonald was stabbed to death close to his home on White Chapel Road in Clonsilla early on Saturday morning.

A man was arrested a number of hours later following a standoff with gardai.

This morning 48 year old Patrick McDonagh of White Chapel Road in Clonsilla appeared before Blanchardstown District Court this morning charged with his neighbours murder.

Detective Garda Sean Burke told the court the accused man made no reply when he was charged,

The Judge asked whether the accused understood what was happening in court and his solicitor said he needs to be seen by a psychiatrist as he has psychiatric difficulties.

She said is very important that be given the appropriate medical treatment.

The Judge granted the request along with free legal aid and Patrick McDonagh was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Friday.
