A man has been arrested after a high-speed chase with Gardai along the M50.

It began when a car with fake registration plates refused to stop for officers at Rossfield Avenue in Tallaght last night.

Two patrol cars were damaged and one Garda narrowly avoided serious injury.

The speeding car was seized after Gardai carried out a "controlled stop".

The driver, a man in his late twenties, is being questioned on suspicion of endangerment and road traffic offences.

A female passenger in her thirties is also being held.

The car was fitted with fake registration plates and has been seized.

It's understood the car was involved in serious criminality in Newry in recent days.
