The DSPCA says it's 'worrying' that people are selling ducklings online and on the street.

A number of ads were posted on social media sites, offering chicks or eggs, for as little as €5.

The charity says it's taken in about fifteen ducklings today, and is warning a family home is not an appropriate setting for them.

Gillian Bird, Head of Education and Media says there are reports of injured ducklings being sold.

It's warning buying ducks online or on the street could be illegal if they were taken from the wild.

The DSPCA is urging the public not to buy ducklings online, and to report the sellers urgently.

The charity says anyone who is offered one of the ducklings should contact Gardai immediately.

The DSPCA says it's on hand to help any parents whose kids have bought a duckling on the street.
