9.9 million illegal cigarettes have been seized at Dublin Port.
The haul has an estimated value of €8.9m.
The consignment arrived on a container from the Netherlands on Monday, and the investigation is continuing.
A Revenue spokesperson says: "On Monday, 12/05/2025, Revenue officers seized 9.9 million cigarettes at Dublin Port. The seizure was made as a result of risk profiling, and with the assistance of Revenue’s mobile x-ray scanner.
"The illicit cigarettes, branded Marlboro Gold, Richmond Blue, and Marlboro Red, have an estimated value of €8.9 million, and a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €7 million. The consignment was discovered when officers examined an unaccompanied container arriving from the Netherlands.
"Investigations are ongoing.
"This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295."
