Ed Sheeran seems to be a big fan of the Irish. The singer performed at a wedding here with Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid during the summer, enjoyed a fry in West Cork in September and now Ed is spending more time on the Emerald Isle.

He bumped into Game of Thrones' Liam Cunningham during a trip to Belfast this week and it's reported that Ed is in Dublin this weekend.

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Sheeran has penned a song about his Irish granny for his new album.

The singer is back in studio working on the follow up to 2014's 'X', and his Nan Anne - who is from Wexford, is apparently the inspiration behind one of the tracks.

According to the Irish Daily Star, Ed is planning to release his new album in January.

A source told the paper: "There are 17 songs on the album, but Ed is trying to whittle that down. He has a song about his Irish grandmother on it."

"The new album is in the final mix. He had hoped it would be released by Christmas, but it looks like it won't be out until January."

Ed reportedly stayed with his Granny in Wexford ahead of his sold out concert at Croke Park last July.
