For the first time ever, the Criminal Assets Bureau has seized an asset linked to Daniel Kinahan, who is suspected of playing a leadership role in the Kinahan Organised Crime Group.

It’s believed the asset, a five-bedroom luxury mansion in Dublin, was handed over to the cartel as part of an attempt to pay off a multi-million-euro debt.

Following a complex and thorough garda investigation, the High Court was today satisfied that No 10 Coldwater Lakes in Saggart, Co Dublin ended up in the hands of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group when disgraced businessman, Jim Mansfield Jnr, used it to repay a multi-million-euro property investment that went sour.

The Criminal Assets Bureau was previously given permission to serve papers on Daniel Kinahan and a known associate of the cartel, Thomas ‘Bomber’ Kavanagh, but neither of them engaged with the process or contested the application today.

The judge was told Daniel Kinahan is a son of Christy Kinahan, who is believed to be in control of the gang.

Daniel, the court heard, is suspected of being a leader of the cartel and is also suspected of playing an “integral role” in money laundering, the importation of drugs and firearms, and the sanctioning of a number of gangland feud related murders.

Bomber Kavanagh is serving a 21-year prison sentence in the UK for drug trafficking.

With the court satisfied the house was acquired through criminal means, CAB was given permission to seize it and will apply to have a receiver appointed next month.
