Astra Zeneca is expected to only meet a third of its original forecasted vaccine supply to the EU in the first quarter of this year.

Reuters is reporting that just around 30 million doses will be delivered to the bloc, which is 25 percent less than a pledge last month.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin is seeking a meeting with the head of AstraZeneca.

It comes as the National Immunisation Advisory Committee has approved AstraZeneca for use in the over 70s.

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe says the government is doing all it can to source extra vaccines:

"The reality of it is that there's no spare vaccine anywhere in the world."

"We have to make sure that Astra Zeneca and other manufacturers live up to the commitments that we have."

"Doing this through the European Union is the best way for Ireland to do it."
