Aretha Franklin’s fortune has been held up in a Detroit Court for the past 5 years!

The ‘Respect’ singer sadly passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer in 2018. After she passed it was revealed Aretha, had no formal typewritten will but, documents have been found within the family home.

The first document in question is a piece of paper that was found between her couch that her three sons found from 2014. Franklin's niece later discovered handwritten documents at her home from 2010. The whole debate in court at the moment is whether the piece of paper is more of an evidential will over the handwritten documents which were stored in a locked cabinet.

Franklin's son Ted White favours the 2010 document as it states that he and his brothers would obtain the revenue on all her music. It also states that he would be a co-executor to her estate and her other two sons Kecalf and Edward could only benefit off that if they wanted to “take business classes and get a certificate or a degree”.

In the 2014 will her son Kecalf is the co-executor to the estate and her million dollar mansion would be that of his children’s.

It’s no shock that Franklin had a huge fortune behind her from 18 Grammy awards, 73 songs on Billboard's top 100 and being the first female artist to join the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It is estimated that Aretha’s fortune is around $80 million.
