A new affordable housing scheme will see the government take up a 30% stake of equity to help finance first-time buyers.

It's believed there will be no salary caps for applicants to the scheme.

It's expected Housing Minister Darragh O' Brien will bring it to Cabinet next week.

There are hopes for it to be in operation by next June or July.

The Irish Times reports some 2,500 homes will be supplied in the 12 months that follow.
