Two Gardai accused of beating a man during an arrest in Blanchardstown claim the allegations are lies that have damaged their careers.

Gardai John Mulcahy and Brian O'Connor deny kicking 21-year-old Leon Sutcliffe just over three years ago.

Earlier in the trial, Mr. Sutcliffe told the jury that what happened to him on November 13th 2010 felt like a "nightmare".

In the early hours of that date, he was hanging around a burning wheelie bin with friends when a Garda patrol car pulled up.

He told the court he "panicked" and made a run for it.

Following a short chase on foot, he claims he was handcuffed and kicked in the face and body by Garda John Mulcahy and Garda Brian O'Connor.

During a GSOC investigation, the two Blanchardstown based officers denied the claim and said it was all lies when they took the stand in court this week

Garda Mulcahy even said the allegation had impacted on his career and promotion hopes.

The jurors have heard all the evidence and are now being addressed by both sides for a final time before they're sent away to consider a verdict.
