One man has died after shots were fired at The Regency Hotel in Whitehall.

The attack happened at about half two this afternoon. Emergency services responding to reports of a shooting discovered three men, all in their 20s or 30s, injured.

One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. The two others have been rushed to The Mater and Beaumont  hospitals with possible gunshot wounds.

The hotel is used to house many of Dublin's homeless families, some of whom were inside the hotel during this afternoon's shooting.

The scene is sealed off and a technical examination of the area is expected to take place. There are unconfirmed reports that a burnt out car has been found close by.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the area of the Regency Hotel or may have information, to contact them at Ballymun Garda Station on 01 666 4400.

The shooting happened as final preparations were underway for a boxing match tomorrow.

MGM Promotions "Clash of the Clans" official press conference and weigh-in was due to take place at The Regency Hotel at 1PM this afternoon.
