A 5k Fun Run is taking place on Sandymount Strand next Sunday, 29th of May, in aid of the Sandymount Matero Friendship Programme.
Proceeds from the Sandymount Matero Fun Run will provide children of the impoverished Matero Community in Lusaka, Zambia with a decent education and a fighting chance in life.

Registration opens at 1.30pm on Sandymount Green where you can also collect your event t-shirt. A fun day in Sandymount Green for all the family will also take place with refreshments, games, prizes and much more.
Established in 2008, the Sandymount Matero Friendship Programme provides much needed support for St Community School in, Lusaka, Zambia through the generosity of the people of Sandymount.
Children in Matero face multiple daily challenges including hunger, AIDS and abject poverty. All funds from the community in Sandymount are routed through the Jesuit Foreign Mission Office in Dublin (Charity No 19577) to the Jesuit Province in Zambia and Malawi for distribution.
The programme has grown so that now it funds:
- 2 meals for all 250 schoolchildren every day of the school terms
- The salaries of 3 full time teachers
- School books and classroom equipment
- Catering equipment and cooks to sustain the feeding programme
- Scholarships for 25 children to continue their education throughout secondary school
