Verdicts in the Regency Hotel murder trial will be delivered in April.

Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch is accused of murdering David Byrne at the hotel in 2016, while two others stood trial for allegedly assisting with the hit team’s getaway.

After 52 days at hearing, the Regency Hotel murder trial concluded this afternoon after the closing speeches were delivered on behalf of Jason Bonney, of Drumnigh Wood, Portmarnock and Paul Murphy, of Cherry Avenue in Swords.

They’re both accused of using their own vehicles to assist with the getaway.

Mr Bonney called alibi witness earlier this week, claiming it was his father, and not him, driving his jeep at the time. His father is since deceased.

Mr Murphy’s barrister described the case against his client as “circumstantial” and he urged the judges to acquit on the basis that the evidence to convict isn’t there.

Gerry Hutch is the only one on trial for murder. The prosecution believes he was one of the armed men who shot David Byrne after storming the Regency Hotel.

His barrister claims the other side is relying on the testimony of a self-confessed liar.

The judges will deliver their verdicts on the 17th of April.
