Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch has failed to get his legal fees paid for by the State.

He was acquitted for the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in 2016 in April.

The 60-year-old was accused of shooting an associate of the Kinahan cartel at a boxing event at the Regency Hotel in Dublin.

Following the ruling he had applied to get his legal costs paid for by the State but it has been rejected.

The court refused costs for reasons relating to his criminal involvement. The court said that while Mr Hutch was acquitted of the murder of David Byrne, he was involved in serious criminal conduct in the underlying charge against him in terms of his possession of guns which he knew had been used in the Regency attack.
