The price of the East Link toll bridge in Dublin could be increased by 50 cent.

City Councillors are considering the measure which would see the price rise from €1.40 to €1.90. This is an increase of 36%.

Those against the hike say it would be hitting drivers who need the bridge.

Former Lord Mayor of Dublin Neil Ring says the city council are looking for the "easy targets."

"We're not thinking of the bigger picture in terms of, unfortunately, some people need to be in their cars, they need to be going around town," says Ring.

But Green Party Councillor, Janet Horner, is in favour of the increase.

Horner says the move is "part of the move of the city overall to support those who are going about their business in the city by walking, cycling, taking public transport which are the more sustainable modes of transport that we have in this city and making it safe comfortable efficient for them to do that and also tackling congestion in the city as well."
