Aston Villa have signed Danny Ings from Southampton for an undisclosed fee.

The former England striker has signed a three-year deal at Villa Park following three seasons at St. Mary's.

Ings scored 46 times in 100 Southampton games, having initially joined on loan from Liverpool before securing a £20m permanent deal.

The Villa move is also good news for Liverpool, who inserted a sell-on clause in Ings' Southampton deal. The Merseyside club are due to receive 20 per cent of any fee above £20million.

The 29-year old's arrival brings Villa's summer spending close to £100million (€117m). Emi Buendia joined from Norwich City for £33million (€39m), while hours before Ings arrived Villa had signed Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen for £25million (€30m).

They're set to recoup the entirety of that outlay with Jack Grealish poised for a record-breaking £100million (€117m) move to Premier League champions Manchester City.

"Danny is an outstanding Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played," Villa boss Dean Smith said of his latest signing.

"He is also a top professional with a great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our rapidly developing young Academy players who are now in and around the first team.

"I am delighted to welcome Danny to our great Club.”
