Jason McAteer has admitted to having mixed emotions today after hearing the Hillsborough Inquest deliver the verdict that the 96 Liverpool fans who died on 15 April 1989 were unlawfully killed.
The friends and families of the dead have finally been vindicated after a 27 year fight for justice during which time their loved ones were wrongly accused of being drunk and misbehaving on the tragic day.
After hearing more than two years of evidence, the jury ruled unanimously that the fans did not contribute to the dangerous situation at the Sheffield Wednesday football ground.
Christopher and Kevin Traynor lost their lives in the tragedy and former Ireland international and Liverpool player McAteer was a close friend of the brothers.
McAteer played football alongside Kevin for local team Parkside FC and today he gave his reaction after the verdict to 98FM Sport's Stephen Doyle
