St Vincents manager Tommy Conroy admits they were beaten by the better side after the Dublin club exited the All-Ireland Club Football Championship at the semi-final stage.

They were beaten by 0-12 to 0-10 by Slaughtneil at Pairc Esler on Saturday afternoon.

3 unanswered points midway through the second half helped Slaughtneil secure victory over a Vinnies side who just didn’t turn up.

Chrissy McKaigue kicked scores for fun from centre-back while points from Shane McGuigan and Chris Bradley obliterated Vinnies one point half-time advantage.

After 10 mins it was clear the Marino men were in for a long day, they registered two wides and a ball dropped into the keepers hands from Mossy Quinn.

Enda Varley was the only one firing for the Dublin champs as he contributed 5 points.

Scores from Gavin Burke and Shane Carthy narrowed the gap to one but Mossy Quinn missed a free late on that would’ve levelled it.

Paul Bradley then converted a free in front of the posts in stoppage time to seal the victory.

Conroy had no complaints about the result, but was at a loss to explain why his side failed to perform:

“Things didn’t go right for us today unfortunately,” Conroy said after the game.

The Vins manager told Darren Cleary that the purple patch shortly after half-time in which the Derry men went three up was the turning point:

“It’s huge in a game like that where Slaughtneil are very good at keeping possession, three points is a big lead to have even we brought it back to a point and had a chance, there was just something lacking in us today.

“In fairness to Slaughtneil they worked really hard and stuck to what they had to do, we just weren't right for some reason.”

"I'm not sure what was wrong, our preparations were very good but possibly maybe missing a couple of scores early on in the game.

"Other than that I don't know, I've no complaints really (about the result) we thought we done everything well, we just didn't finish or take the chances.

"Today we scored 10 scores, it's not really enough to win a game like that."
