Robbie Brady has seen his current deal at Burnley extended by another year.

The Republic of Ireland winger was due to be out of contract this summer, but the Premier League club have exercised the 12-month option on his contract.

Brady was Burnley's club record signing when he joined for €15million in the summer of 2017.

He's since gone on to make 63 appearances for the Clarets, with 15 of those coming this season.

The 28-year old's time at Turf Moor has been blighted by injury - he missed ten months with a knee injury which carried over to the 2018-19 season.

Brady - along with the rest of the Burnley squad - returned to training this week ahead of a possible June resumption of the Premier League.

Their assistant manager Ian Woan was one of six people across the Premier League to test positive for COVID-19 in the first batch of testing.

After a rocky start to the season, Burnley find themselves secure in 10th place in the Premier League and worries of relegation long behind them.

Brady will hope his new-found certainty around his club career will help his international aspirations.

The former Manchester United and Hull City wide man has won 46 Republic of Ireland caps, but found himself often out of favour under Mick McCarthy.

Brady was excluded from the squads for home and away Euro 2020 qualifiers with Switzerland, and the bore draw with Georgia in Tbilisi.

He's a player that's already been mentioned favourably by new Ireland boss Stephen Kenny.

"I can’t say Robbie would be a shoo-in, it would be wrong as somebody might be playing better than him," the former Dundalk manager said at his unveiling press (video)conference.

"But he’d be rightly at the head of my thoughts for the Euros if he is playing on a regular basis, because that’s how much I like him and rate him.

“He’s got that twinkle in his eye and he’s back training and ready to play but he’s had eight minutes of football."
