Real Madrid's entire first team squad, head coach Zinedine Zidane and the club's executives have all agreed to take pay cuts as a result of the coronavirus shutdown.

They've voluntarily reduced their annual salary by between 10 and 20%.

Real say the measure has been taken in an effort to reduce the "traumatic measures that affect the rest of the workers, as well as contributing to the economic objectives of the entity in view of the decrease in income" that's come with the coronavirus shutdown.

Football in Spain is suspended indefinitely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The country has been the second-hardest hit by the virus, with the latest figures showing 14,555 have died as a result.

La Liga president Javier Tebas said earlier this week that football in Spain is unlikely to resume until the end of May at the earliest, and that they will most likely play through the summer to complete the 2019-20 season.

Former Real president Lorenzo Sanz was one of the early high-profile victims of coronavirus.

While Real's Santiago Bernabeu home has been used as a storage and distribution centre for medical supplies during the crisis.

The head of Madrid's regional government Isabel Diaz thanked the club publicly for a "big donation in health materials".

Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are among the others to have agreed to take pay cuts because of the crisis.

Real continued in their statement, "Real Madrid is proud of all those who make up this great family and of its unwavering culture of values, which is especially valuable in difficult times such as these.

"In the same way, Real Madrid, its members and fans, want to show all their love and solidarity to those who have suffered the direct consequences of this disease that is hitting us all, especially those who have lost a family member or loved one.

"The club wishes a quick recovery to all the sick people and wants to transmit its deepest gratitude to all the people who are playing an essential, exemplary and solidary [sic] role in the fight against COVID-19."
