Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld required medical treatment after he collapsed shortly after playing in Milton Keynes on Friday.

Five-time world champion van Barneveld lost 6-1 to Ryan Searle at the Players Championship 8, and shortly afterward needed medical assistance.

It is not yet known what caused the 53-year-old to become unwell at the Marshall Arena after the first-round loss.

A PDC statement in relation to the incident on Friday afternoon said:

"Raymond Van Barneveld received medical treatment following a collapse at Friday's Players Championship 8, the PDC has confirmed.

"Van Barneveld was defeated in the first round of the PDC Super Series 2 event in Milton Keynes, and later required medical assistance after becoming unwell in the arena.

"He was treated by paramedics but has not required hospital treatment, and returned to his hotel at the Marshall Arena to be further monitored.

"Play was suspended whilst Van Barneveld received treatment before resuming at 1445 GMT."

Play was stopped temporarily to allow the treatment to take place and has since resumed.
