World Darts champion Gerwyn Price has been ruled out of the 2021 Premier League.

The 17-night tournament gets underway at Milton Keynes' Marshall Arena on Monday night.

All players and officials involved were tested for Covid-19 on Sunday.

The 'Iceman' returned a positive test and will be replaced in the field by UK Open champion James Wade.

Wade is the highest-ranked player in the PDC Order of Merit not to have been included in the 10-strong line-up.

He will play Gary Anderson in the opening round of fixtures before facing Rob Cross on Tuesday evening.

The tournament runs from 5-22 April.

All other players and officials tested on Sunday returned negative test results.

Price, who became the first-ever Welshman to win the PDC World Championship in January, will now return home to enter a period of self-isolation in line with government guidelines, the PDC announced on Monday.
