Paddy Andrews believes Dublin have lost a leader following the retirement of Ger Brennan.

The veteran St Vincents’ defender called time in his inter-county career this week following an injury ravaged period that saw him miss the entire 2014 and 2015 All Ireland football championships.

Brennan made the decision to bow out having not started a championship game for Dublin since the 2013 final win over Mayo.

A persistent achilles tendon problem kept Brennan sidelined for long periods.

He won two All-Irelands, five Leinster titles, and an All Star. He also has two All-Ireland club titles with St Vincents.

Andrew believes Brennan is irreplaceable: “People might not realise what he brings to the dressing room. He’s a fantastic guy to have around, so intelligent in terms of reading the game.”

“What he brings to the dressing room in terms of just being a real leader. He’s a fantastic guy to be around, good craic and just a great team mate to have”.

“I think every one of his teammates both with St Vincents and Dublin would be very proud to call him a teammate because he’s a fantastic guy to have a round, he’ll definitely be missed”

Paddy Andrews was speaking to 98FM's Darren Cleary as he was presented with the Opel GAA/GPA Player of the Month awards for September. Kilkenny's TJ Reid got the hurling gong.
