The head of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) has called for an independent review of the events leading up to Billy Walsh's departure as national head coach.

Joe Christle and other IABA officials, as well as members of Sport Ireland, were questioned for four hours by TDs in Leinster House to find out exactly what happened over the last number of months.

Christle says there was no campaign to get rid of the former High Performance Head Coach, and that there was nothing abnormal in the contract they offered him to stay.

Walsh resigned and moved to the USA last week claiming the IABA "clearly didn't want him"

Christle says the Association did everything it could.

Walsh wanted up to 60 changes made to the contract he was offered before he could sign it, the IABA claim they had granted at least 30 of those amendments as Director Ciaran Kieran explained.

The IABA says signing up to Billy Walsh's proposed €1.6 million pay package would have been irresponsible

Sport Ireland’s Kieran Mulvey says lessons need to be learned and that issues must be addressed.

Mulvey says he's 'at a loss' as to how negotiations surrounding one of the IABA's most vital employees were allowed to drag on for 8 months.

Chief Executive of the Irish Sports Council John Treacy says the IABA's commentary in the media has been unhelpful
