New Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has given a bullish update on the futures of Harry Kane and Matt Doherty.

Kane made it known at the end of the season that he was seeking discussions with the club's hierarchy regarding his future.

While Doherty's first season at Spurs could only be deemed a disappointment following his €15m arrival from Wolves.

The Republic of Ireland full-back rose to prominence under Nuno at Molineux, and his new manager is sure he can see the best of hime once again.

Asked what Doherty can do to regain his Wolves form, Nuno said, "What he's doing every day.

"Commit himself, work hard, the quality is there. I know him, he knows us. Take the best of him and this is what we will try."

Manchester City reportedly lead the queue to sign Kane, should he decide his future lies elsewhere.

But Nuno is under no illusions as to where the England captain will be next season.

"Harry is our player, period," the Portuguese boss said, "No need to talk about anything else.

"Now is the moment for Harry to recover his energy, to rest. When he comes again we will have time to speak.

"We will have good conversations, but now is the moment for Harry to rest and to prepare for what’s coming, and I’m looking forward to him joining the group and start working together."

Nuno regards Kane as "one of the best players in the world", adding, "I have no doubts in my mind. I have no doubts.

"What I wish is for Harry to recover well, to have a good rest and when he arrives he will feel that everyone of us has to commit ourselves to become better.

"We are very ambitious, we are ambitious people and we want to do it well and no doubts on Harry on that."

While determined to hang on to Kane and Doherty, Nuno admits there is work to be done to reshape the squad this summer.

The manager, however, is happy to leave the clerical work in the hands of new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici.

"We’ve been talking - not only me and Fabio. Steve [Hitchen] also," Nuno revealed.

"We are aware there's a lot of work to be done, but at the same time it’s hard work because to improve our squad, the quality we have, the talent we have, is not easy, and we have to find the right players who can help us, but it’s been good work and on a daily basis each moment we have the chance to speak, to share opinions - me, Fabio, Steve.

"They do their job, look at the market. I do my job on the training ground and we get together ideas and try to find the best decisions. But like I say to improve our squad is not easy."
