Memphis Depay fuels Barcelona talk as he ditches his agents

Memphis Depay has fuelled speculation he's looking to force through a move to Barcelona this summer.

The Lyon forward has confirmed on social media that he is dealing with contract negotiations by himself.

Memphis is out of contract at the Ligue 1 side at the end of June, and his set to be one of the most sought-after signatures of the summer.

The 27-year old was linked to Barcelona in January of this year as he entered the final months of his Lyon deal. However, Barca were apparently put off by the player's representatives.

Writing on Instagram, Memphis said on Monday that he is a free agent - in every sense.

"It is time for me to take control of my career," he said, "As I have come to a point where I need to make important choices about my future, I have decided to negotiate my future deals together with my team of trusted confidants, backed by my legal experts.

"I will decide about my destination myself. You will be the first to know."

A Barcelona move would see Memphis reunited with his former Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman. And with Barca so deeply in debt, but needing to replenish their playing stock, a free transfer would be an attractive proposition.

Barcelona may become frequent shoppers in the bargain aisle this summer. Defender Eric Garcia is poised to move to the Camp Nou when his Manchester City deal expires, while Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is also a free agent in the summer with Koeman a known admirer.
