Luca Connell has revealed that he rejected interest from English clubs to make the move to Scottish champions Celtic.

The Republic of Ireland under-19 international signed a four-year contract with the Hoops last month after leaving Bolton following their relegation to League One.

The 18-year-old says he's been adjusting well to life at Parkhead.

"Everything’s been going well and the lads have helped me settle in", he told Celtic's official website.

“There’s a lot of games this season so I’m looking forward to the challenge and to take any opportunities.

“There were a lot of interested clubs down south but when I heard of Celtic’s interest’ I knew it was the club for me.

“It was unbelievable getting the call, and it’s not something you can ignore, when a Champions League team want to sign you.

"It’s a dream come true. I want to go on and make history here. Hopefully I can get some first-team games in and help make more history."

Connell wasn't part of Celtic's team in their midweek Champions League qualifier win against Sarajevo and he's hoping to make his debut in tomorrow's pre-season friendly with Rennes.

“I’d love to make my debut tomorrow. My family will be there so it would be a special occasion.

“I’d love to get my first cap for Ireland, so if I work hard for Celtic, hopefully that will come.

“If I can get some game-time that would be unbelievable. If I can make my debut at Celtic Park, that’s even more unbelievable again.”
