Johnny Sexton will miss the start of Ireland's Six Nations campaign.

Racing Metro have confirmed that Sexton has been banned from playing by a medical committee until mid February after he suffered a concussion in Ireland's win over Australia on November 22nd.

After suffering four instances of concussion in a year, the out-half must observe an obligatory stand-down period of 12 weeks. Sexton will see an expert neurologist on February 7th before he can resume full contact.

Ireland begin their Six Nations campaign against Italy on Rome that same day. “It is most unfortunate and I feel bad for the club,”  Sexton told Racing Metro's website after meeting with his coaches and club doctor this morning. “ I’m still not feeling 100%, and with injuries like this it’s not worth taking any risks.”

Sexton must await a check-up with two independent neurologists on February 7th before he can resume full contact. Sexton could be ready in time for a return to action on February 14th. “Today I’m feeling very disappointed for the club and my teammates that I won’t be able to contribute to the team for such a long period".
