Dublin may have to plan without the 2015 Footballer of the Year Jack McCaffrey for their All Ireland title defence.

The Dubs defender is reportedly set for a spell abroad as part of his studies. He’s a medical student at UCD.

McCaffrey played a key role in Dublin’s success in 2015; he was rewarded for his efforts as he was named GAA GPA Player of the Year.

McCaffrey has been part of the set-up so far this year, coming off the bench in Dublin’s Allianz League games against Kerry in Croke Park and then Mayo in Castlebar.

He missed the victory over Monaghan in Croke Park with a hamstring injury. Dublin’s summer begins with the Leinster Championship quarter-final against the winner of Laois v Wicklow on June 4th.

The boys in blue are aiming to become the first side since Kerry in 2007 to win back-to-back All-Ireland titles. Jim Gavin’s men are also gunning for a sixth provincial title in a row.
