"It makes me smile" - 100m champ Jacobs revels in Ujah's failed test

Olympic 100m gold medalist Marcell Jacobs says he smiled after hearing of Chijindu Ujah's failed drugs test.

Ujah helped Great Britain win silver in the men's 4x100m relay, coming home behind Italy and ahead of Canada.

Earlier this week, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIT) confirmed that a sample taken from Ujah in Tokyo "returned an adverse analytical finding" for ostarine, a substance not cleared for human use or consumption.

Jacobs has been subject of suspicion himself.

A heavy underdog heading into the Tokyo games, the 26-year old shocked the world when he won 100m gold in a time of 9.80 seconds.

Jacobs had only announced himself as a sprinter of any record in March of this year with his performance in the European Indoor Athletics Championships.

Since then, he's had to publicly distance himself from fitness expert and bodybuilder Giacomo Spazzini who had claimed credit for Jacobs' transformation from jobbing long-jumper to Olympic 100m champion.

Spazzini has been at the centre of a police investigation looking into the illegal distribution of anabolic steroids.

Jacobs, who hadn't run a sub 10-second 100m until May, confirmed last week he'd severed ties with Spazzini as soon as he'd found out about his trouble with the law.

The Times ran a feature story on Jacobs' links with the disgraced coach last week, and now the Italian is revelling in some British misfortune.

"The situation hasn’t touched me so much, I know the sacrifices and blows I went thorough to get here," he told TuttoSport.

“Instead, I want to enjoy it 100 per cent.

“Having seen the investigation into Ujah I would say that perhaps it’s better [for the British] to look closer to home before attacking others.

"It made me smile."

Jacobs won't return to action until 2022, after withdrawing from the Diamond League events in which he was scheduled to appear.

The Texas-born athlete had intended to continue his season, but quit training due to "the accumulated fatigue of the Olympics as well as a knee problem".
