Rhasidat Adeleke claimed gold for Ireland at the European U20 Athletics Championships.

The Dubliner was a relatively comfortable winner of the women's 100m in Tallinn, taking the line in 11.34.

Serbia's Ivan Ilic was second in 11.42, with Great Britain's Joy Eze claiming bronze in a time of 11.44.

Adeleke has matched the achievement of fellow Irish athlete Gina Akpe-Moses, who also won gold in the same event in 2017 in Grosseto, Italy.

Just over two hours later, Adeleke posted the fastest time in the heats of the women's 200m.

She won the fourth of four heats in a time of 23.20.

Adeleke will return for the first semi-final, which takes place on 1.40pm Irish time on Saturday afternoon.

Lauren McCourt narrowly missed out on advancing in the 200m as a fastest loser. She ran a time of 24.23, with two of the three fastest losers coming from her heat.
