The Irish Open could be played at Cork's Fota Island resort next summer but more importantly the tournament could have a title sponsor. The European Tour are close to finding a new backer after three years without one which could push the prize money past the €2million mark. Carton House, Royal Portrush and Killarney have all hosted the tournament over the last three years and the last time it was held at Fota Island was 2002. Next summers event is due to take place between the 19th and 22nd of June.
