The PDC World Darts Championship takes a mid-tournament break, it went out with a bang last night at Alexandra Palace.

Dave Chisnall and Jeffrey de Zwaan served up what pundit Wayne Mardle called the "match of the tournament." Both players averaged over 100 throughout with some brilliant darts.

De Zwaan took an early lead with a three-one first set win, but then had his throw broken twice in the second set for Chisnall to level at one set all. Both players took a set each three-nil to make the match level again at two-all.

The scoring in the sixth set was particularly spectacular with Chisnall checking 161 to break the Dutchman's throw.

That leveled proceedings at three-all before de Zwaan turned up the heat on Chisnall's throw breaking him twice to take the final set three-nil, and the match by four sets to three.

Flying Scotsman

Gary Anderson and Ryan Searle had the unenviable task of following the match of the tournament. The pair did admirably with Anderson nudging an average of almost three figures.

There were 50 throws of 140 plus and Searle hit nine maximums, but couldn't de-rail the Flying Scotsman. The former dual World Champion saw off Searle by four sets to three.

In the closing match of the night Peter 'Snakebite' Wright saw off Seigo Asada of Japan. The Japanese thrower had a higher average than Wright, but Snakebite overpowered the Japanese player with nine maximums and one huge 157 check-out in the fifth set.

Wright finished the evening with a bullseye to take the game by four sets to two. That bought down the curtain on the first part of the PDC World Darts Championship.

Play resumes on Friday, where amongst other games, Fallon Sherrock continues in the competition.

The Milton Keynes mum became the first female to ever win at The PDC World Championships and faces world number 22 Chris Dobey in the third round.

That match is scheduled to be on the oche at three o'clock, with the winner progressing to the last 16.
