Chelsea defeated Manchester City by a goal to nil in this top of the table Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium.

The Blues fully deserved this invaluable win as they snuffed out the early threat from City before turning on their own heat and scoring as well as hitting the woodwork three times.

Chelsea dented City's previously unblemished home record as the home side lost for the first time in 20 games.

The winner arrived in the 32nd minute with Branislav Ivanovic drilling home a left footed half volley from just outside the box.

They should have taken the lead before that but Ramires fired straight at Joe Hart following excellent work from the ever dangerous Eden Hazard.

And could have increased their lead with Samuel Eto'o hitting the post.

Chelsea continued to look the more likely team to score in the second half with Nemanja Matic (bar) and Gary Cahill (post) also thumping the woodwork.

City had started like a roller coaster in the opening 15 minutes but they couldn't make the breakthrough with David Silva fluffing their best opportunity, angling wide from a brilliant Yaya Toure run and cross.

Chelsea now draw level with second placed City but the real winners on the night were Arsenal who lead the Premier League by two points.
