Chelsea are "pragmatic" in appointing and firing managers | Roman Abramovich

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has defended his high turnover of managers since buying the club in 2003.

In a rare interview, he said they're "pragmatic" in their choices - after sacking 10 bosses and making 14 appointments.

"We are comfortable making the right changes at the right time to ensure we can achieve our long-term ambitions," he told Forbes.

"I hope it also says something about the clarity of the long-term ambition of the club. Those who join understand the objectives both on the pitch."

The Russian added that he can't understand why some clubs don't invest in their women's teams.

"The women’s team is a critical part of Chelsea and shapes who we are as a club.

"I think investment pays off. I think their success demonstrates what can be achieved when you dedicate resources and the right leadership. Emma Hayes has been remarkable in her work with the team."

Chelsea are currently dominating the English Women's Super League and they've reached the Champions League quarter-finals.
